I was honored to participate in the 2nd AI Somalia Summit 2026, held on 14–15 June, which brought together policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs, technology leaders, students, and innovators to discuss the future of artificial intelligence in Somalia.
The summit offered valuable conversations around topics that are becoming increasingly important for our digital future, including Somali language AI, local adaptation of AI technologies, responsible innovation, and how AI can support inclusive development across different sectors.
One of the most inspiring parts of the event was seeing students present their projects and ideas. Their creativity, curiosity, and willingness to explore emerging technologies highlighted the potential of Somalia's next generation of innovators.
I was pleased to join the panel discussion on "AI and the Digital Economy: Empowering Somali Youth to Create, Innovate, and Earn." During the discussion, I shared my perspective on the importance of digital skills, adaptability, and how young people can use AI not only to learn, but also to create opportunities, solve problems, and build sustainable careers in the digital economy.
As AI continues to evolve, Somalia has an opportunity to do more than adopt technology. We have an opportunity to build solutions that reflect our language, culture, and local realities while preparing our youth for the future of work.
My appreciation goes to the organizers, speakers, panelists, and participants who contributed to making the summit a meaningful platform for learning, collaboration, and innovation.
The future will not be built by those who simply watch change happen. It will be built by those who choose to learn, adapt, and create value from it.
